April 2005 Archives
I've heard some complaints about Freeride offers or sales not crediting, and that requests for help left through their online contact form have gone unanswered. So, I went on a quest to find out how to get ahold of those folks, and here's what I found.
Through July 15, every $1 purchase made to your Sears Gold Mastercard (enrolled in the Sears Choice Rewards program) from a drugstore, gas station, or supermarket will equal 2 points. These points will NOT be subject to the 60,000 annual point cap! It will take 4 to 8 weeks from the end of the promotion for the points to appear in your account. For info on how they define qualified purchases, and what they specifically exclude, click Continue Reading.
Sploofus.com issued a press release today requesting interested parties contact them if they could possibly provide some capital for the site. Some intended uses for this capital include staffing, rewards, enhanced infrastructure (hmm, that's hardware, right?), realtime multiplayer games (don't understand that one...WordRounds?), marketing, and commercial software licensing models (another I'm unclear on). The site has over 5,000 users now, according to the statement. Interested? Contact support@sploofus.com with your name, phone number, best time to reach you, and a brief history of your investment experience.
The full text of the press release is below.
NOTE: Max came and went today for 25 points. Keep an eye out for him!
I've mentioned this in my trivia newsletter but felt it was worth its own post here on the site as well -- MyPoints fan and super-programmer Alex has written a program that searches through every page on MyPoints for Max (the little triangle-shaped guy you can click for points). The last time we saw Max was around Christmastime, up until about a week ago and he's been sighted two or three times since then, including yesterday for a while. I just ran it and as of this posting, he's not up...but if you'd like to bookmark Alex's Max Finder program and check it periodically yourself, it's a fast and easy way to find ol' Max!
The link is here: http://www23.brinkster.com/asjs/max/rx.aspx -- and while you're there, please check out Alex's links and consider joining one of the paid email programs he recommends (I've also been paid by all of 'em; they're all excellent programs!). Huge thanks go out to Alex for the Max Finder!
Print this coupon out and bring it to Best Buy before April 30 for a free one-year membership in their RewardZone membership program!
Read this on SlickDeals.net about a new BzzAgent site devoted to book readers. I didn't have a link to join it but you may -- these things are available based on your demographics.
Anyway, here's what BzzAgent says about the new book site: "...what's the Penguin BzzChannel? Well for anyone who loves reading, this is the preeminent means possible to gain access to book BzzCampaigns. You'll essentially have access to a wide variety of books that only participants in the Penguin BzzChannel will be able to take part in. An easy way to think of the Penguin BzzChannel is to think of a cable network. The Penguin BzzChannel would be like ESPN or HBO and. Make sense? It is still part of our site and part of our network, but it is focused entirely on Penguin programs. Our goal with this site is to help great readers discover great new writers and spreading honest Bzz is one of the ways..."
Sploofus has once again changed its member points system, this time in response to member complaints about the fairness of the showdowns and wager system. There may be something to be said about that, as it seems like the same couple of people are always in the top 10 monthly statistics.
Under the current system, the only activities that count toward your monthly points total (which the top 3 scorers at month's end receive prizes for) are the Question of the Day, taking quizzes, and other people taking quizzes you authored.
Probably to ensure that users continue to partake in the other activities that earn jackpot points (that go into your total but don't count toward prizes), Sploofus upped the value of referral points to 10,000 and the WordRounds prizes jumped way up as well.
Sploofus is also pushing to increase the quality of their quizzes, eliminating the Extra Easy quizzes (just weeks after getting rid of the About Me category) and requesting that users anonymously report quizzes that aren't truly a test of trivial knowledge.
This definitely levels the playing field for all of us and encourages authoring challenging but fun quizzes. Hope to see some different folks on the top of the leaderboard this month!
