Status of United's Bankruptcy

Today's Chicago Tribune reports that United Airlines, parent company of MyPoints, is still on schedule to emerge from bankruptcy protection in February, as their creditors approved their plan last week. The court will have another hearing on the plan on January 18th.

I sent an email to MyPoints a while back asking for assurances that points would be honored in the case of bankruptcy. Today I received this reply:

Dear Member,

MyPoints while once owned by United is now a totally independent
operation. There is no way that United's bankruptcy will effect us at
all,
Thank you for contacting MyPoints Member Services.
Have a nice day.

Best regards,

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, this is not true. As of September, United owned them and intended to sell them, according to United's bankruptcy hearings. Further, according to the Media Kit still up on MyPoints' corporate site here: http://www.mypointscorp.com/media/index.html

"MyPoints and UAL Loyalty Services Lead the Pack...Subsidiary of UAL Loyalty Services, and part of UAL Corporation family of companies..."

I think Steve B. of Member Services is lying through his teeth...or else MyPoints' employees are being misled.
