Subway Ends Sub Club Rewards Program

| | Comments (4)

Got any of those Subway Sub Club cards filled up with stamps? Chances are, you can just toss 'em out. I understand that some (if not all) Subways will no longer accept them for redemption after 12/31. Some markets are considering implementing an electronic swipe card type program, but supposedly that wouldn't be available until mid-2005. The big problem is that stamps were being forged or otherwise fraudulently distributed. (One story about this is here.)

In the past several years, they've increased the number of stamps necessary to get a free sub. It was once 8, then 10; most recently, it was 12. As well, originally, you didn't have to buy a pop to get your sub. For the past year or two, a pop purchase has been necessary.

And recently, I heard that some Subways will be pricing subs on an item-by-item basis -- i.e., you pay for what you choose to put on it. That's just a rumour, though; I haven't heard anything official.

Subway's in West Virginia have been giving out, and accepting, stamps until this week. As of May 1, they are no longer giving out stamps, although you can redeem stamps you already have until July or August. The store owner said that they were going to a swipe or scan card, as already suggested, in a few months.

I like the suggestion of a swipe or scan card it is easier for the consumer to use a swipe or scan card instead of collecting stamps and having to hold onto cards. The swipe card is a
lot less work for the consumer where as the
consumer has to stick the stamps onto the card
and if they come unstuck and fall off
you could loose the stamps.

It is so nice to hear that subway is looking into a swipe card I wish they do use a swipe card.

Subway has fully gone to the rewards card in several states "Test Markets" They have ben "testing" them for years. With the addtion of the new cash cards, I could see all Subways getting them in the next 2 years or less.
