Prayers and Well-Wishes, Please

| | Comments (15)

Hi, all! Off-topic post here, but on a topic that's important to me personally.

My nephew Cole, almost 12 years old, is being treated for a mystery infection that caused swelling, redness, and extreme pain in his foot. Oral antibiotics didn't work and when the symptoms got worse, he had to have surgery. Because of the kind of infection, on or near the bone of his foot, they are not able to stitch up the incision -- it has to heal from the inside out, the docs say. So the child is lying in bed with a half-dollar-sized hole in his foot, which the nurses have been literally stuffing with packing and then removing later in the day -- EXTREMELY painful even on the morphine the child was given.

He's being treated with IV antibiotics but the type of infection he has is still unknown (they're doing cultures). He's in the hospital and whenever he's well enough to be discharged, there'll be a lengthy recovery period (during which time he'll probably still need the IV meds) and then he'll need physical therapy.

He's going to miss the first couple of months of school, which would be great to most kids, but Cole is very sociable, kinda girl-crazy, and had planned to play football this year. He's been in a lot of pain, and kinda depressed, and confused about "why me," and why his family's prayers aren't working to make him well right-this-very-minute.

If you wouldn't mind adding your prayers to ours for Cole, it would be greatly appreciated. And if you would like to send him a note of encouragement, please leave a comment to this message and I will print it and forward it to him.

Thank you!!

Bless his heart. I can't imagine being 12 years old and going thru that.
Prayed for him yesterday and will do so again.
He will be just fine!
My son went thru a glass window a couple of years ago and cut both his arms so bad that the nurse who came out to the vehicle to get him, thought he had been shot. So much blood.
It was a very scary time.
My prayers and well wishes to Cole and his family!!!
Cole,
You hang in there buddy. I know a lot of people love you!

Hi Cole,
Hope each day gets better for you. I know it must be extremely hard and painful for what is happening at this moment to you. God listens, and I will pray fervently for you. I once heard a saying that if you don't have bad times, you will never know the good times. I'm sure that you will be on the football team in no time; and back to school with all that GREAT homework :).
Take care, trust in God and the doctors and the love of your family to see you through this. We are all rooting (hey, I'm not a football cheerleader) for ya!!

Hey Cole~ God hears every prayer, He just may not be able to answer as quickly as we would like sometiems. He has a reason for everything though. I am praying for you and hope you are feeling better soon. Try to stay in good spirits and remeber how much the people around you love you and care about you. Your aunt Becky sure does, I know that since she is asking the people she knows to keep you in their prayers! :) I know I will. My dad was a professional football player a long time ago. Durring one of his games he got tackled and took a cleat to the head. (He played when they wore leather helmets) He had to sit out for quite some time until it healed and it drove him crazy, but once he got back in he was more determined to play all that much better. Stay positive!

Hi Cole -

I have a 12 year old stepson who sounds just like you. While my heart breaks for you, try to think of it this way - something bad seems to happen to everyone at some time - if you get it out of the way at 12, think what a long and fabulous life you will have! Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I can't say i've experienced pain in the magnatitude that you have, but the one thing that has always gotten me through tough times of sickness is looking forward and imaging what I will be doing when things are better.

hey Cole-

how ya doin'? i really hope you're feeling a little better......and when they have to do a procedure that hurts a lot, count backwards from 100. it seems to make it easier to bear the pain.

your pain is felt by a lot of people who love you, so hang in there and when you are well, we will all send you "congratulations" for getting through it. thinking of you.........

Hi Cole,

I'm sorry that you're having such a lousy time of things right now. Having a big medical problem at your age really stinks. But you know, the old saying is true, having bad things happen to you really does give you the chance to find new good things in yourself and the world. Try to keep your spirits up. Being laid up with a foot problem, is no reason to be bored.

Would you like a penpal? Have your Aunt Becky give me your mailing address, or get mine from her and drop me a line yourself. I'd love to hear from you. What do you like to do? (Besides football, let's say.) What do you like to read? Do you like science fiction? What kind of arts and crafts do you do? Have you ever tried loom beading? I have a small loom and some beads I could send if you'd like to give it a try. You can make your own patterns by making colored dots in rows. Graph paper may be easier to copy later in beads. What colors do you like?

Hang in there, kiddo, this too shall pass... Get me you address! I'd love to start sending you junk.

Get well,

Reen Brust
