Rewards Program Credit Cards

| | Comments (1)

You've seen the ads: BabyMint, ClubMom, Greenpoints, and MyPoints all offer credit cards that pay you points/cash back on ALL your purchases. What's the catch? Which one's the best? Read on! (Click MORE below)

First, what you CAN'T do with these cards: You can't earn points/cashback on cash advances, balance transfers, or purchases of cash-equivalents (money orders, casino chips, lotto cards, etc.). So while the cards may offer low introductory interest rates on balance transfers, be aware that you won't earn points on them.

Now let's compare 'em.

Earnings:
BabyMint Card: Earn 1% on all purchases
ClubMom Card: Earn 1 point per dollar (= to .5%)
GreenPoints Card: Earn 5 points per dollar (= to about .65%)
MyPoints Card: Earn .5 points per dollar (= to about .35%)

BabyMint wins easily.

Reward for Successfully Applying:
BabyMint Card: None
ClubMom Card: None
GreenPoints Card: None, but 10,000 points when you make your first purchase (about $13.16)
MyPoints Card: 750 points (about $5.36)

Okeydokey, gotta give that one to GreenPoints.

Introductory Interest Rates:
BabyMint Card: 2.9%% on balance transfers and and cash advance checks for first 6 statements
ClubMom Card: 0% on balance transfers for 12 months FROM THE DATE OF THE FIRST TRANSFER (as long as it occurs within a year of opening the account)
Greenpoints Card: 0% on balance transfers for 6 months AND 3.99% on purchases for 6 months
MyPoints Card: Same as ClubMom Card

Whew...They're all good, but BabyMint is the least impressive.

Ongoing Interest Rates:
BabyMint Card: Fixed, 9.9% for purchases AND cash advances(!)(double-checked it but still can't believe it!)
ClubMom Card: Variable, currently 11.24% on purchases and 19.99% on cash advances
GreenPoints Card: Variable, currently 10.24%, 13.24%, or 17.24% depending on credit, 20.99% on cash advances
MyPoints Card: Same as ClubMom Card

Holy cow, BabyMint wins bigtime!

Other Pertinent Info
BabyMint Card: No fee, 25 day grace period, $15-$35 late fee depending on balance, $15-$35 overlimit fee depending on amount
ClubMom Card: No fee, 20 day grace period, $0.50 min. finance charge, $15-$35 late fee depending on balance, $35 overlimit fee
GreenPoints Card: No fee, 22 day grace period, $1 min. finance charge, $29 late fee, $29 overlimit fee
MyPoints Card: Same as ClubMom Card

BabyMint wins again!

Maximum Annual Earnings:
BabyMint Card: Unlimited
ClubMom Card: 30,000 within a year of account opening ($150)
GreenPoints Card: Unlimited
MyPoints Card: 15,000 per calendar year (about $107)

BabyMint and Greenpoints tie on this one...

Okay, here's my summary of the findings:
BabyMint is my call for the best rewards program credit card you can get. Although you don't get a reward for getting the card, you earn more, your earnings are unlimited, and your continuing (after the initial period) credit terms are the best.

The other three cards are really a tie.

ClubMom and MyPoints' Cards have the same terms (they're both issued by Citibank). ClubMom earns slightly more and has a higher annual earnings limit, but MyPoints gives you a bonus when approved. These two cards offer the best introductory offer for balance transfers.

Greenpoints is also a good option. #2 of the 4 in earnings, and a great bonus for your first card purchase. A very good introductory rate (only one offering a promo rate on purchases) AND unlimited earning potential.

Hope this information has helped someone. If you're not a member of one of these programs but are interested in joining, please support this website by joining through one of my links:

Hi,

I know this doesn't relate directly to reward programs, but since many reward programs offer PayPal deposits and Wecertificates as awards, I thought this would be of interest.

Chase offers the I-Card which earns you a 1% rebate on all purchases in the form of webcertificates. This can really help out if you don't use your webcert all the time and want to avoid their 3 month inactivity fee.

For more info, go to: http://creditcardsatchase.com/portal/site/marketing/?pgTitle=pg_specschaseicard

Also, Paypal has a debit card (NOT their charge card) that you can earn 1.5% cash back on. They are also offering a current interest rate of 1.24% earnings on balances held in paypal money market accounts with no minimums...far better than most banks.

For info, go to www.paypal.com
